APL & SGD Autumn Workshop 2010

Planting ideas and making them last…
Thursday 23 September 2010

This year’s Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) and Society of Garden Designers (SGD) autumn workshop will be held at Birmingham Botanical Gardens and Glasshouses on Thursday 23 September 2010. Planting ideas and making them last is the title of workshop which provides a great opportunity for APL and SGD members to get together to listen and share experiences.

The day promises to be both lively and informative with a wide range of topics covered by well known personalities; their expertise is based on first hand knowledge and will certainly plant inspirational ideas for all delegates. There will also be time during the day for discussion on issues raised before a tour of the variety of specialist gardens and glasshouses.

Growing Media and Working on Site – Tim O’Hare, Director of Soil & Landscape Consultancy, will focus on demonstrating how soil and landscape science supports contractors in creating a practical commercial landscape, with case study illustrations of how plant failures can be reduced by top soil quality assessments to aid successful installations. This talk will be coupled with a specific example by a member how theory is successfully put into practice.

The plant collection now contains over 7000 plants. Some plants are planted because the flowers, foliage, fruit, or bark give pleasure while others are chosen for practical purposes to give screening, shelter or food.
