Norman Hambrook from Hambrooks Landscapes in Hampshire has received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Landscape and Amenity Awards held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London this week.
Norman, a founder member, past chair and active committee member of the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL), has been in the landscaping business for over 40 years. He is a keen advocate of developing staff and at his Curdridge site he set up a Landscape Academy for staff from other landscaping companies in order to promote new talent.
Last year Norman completed a sponsored trek in the Himalayas for the Alzheimer’s Society and he is planning to take part in a 350 km cycle ride in Cuba in 2010.
On receiving his award Norman said, “I am completely overwhelmed by this award. It feels like I set the business up only yesterday but how the industry has changed since those early days. I feel very passionate about landscaping and privileged to work in such a wonderful industry.”
Commenting on Norman’s award APL CEO Jason Lock said, “I was delighted that Norman won the Lifetime Achievement Award as he thoroughly deserves this accolade. Norman’s enthusiasm for our industry is unrelenting as is his desire to share his knowledge to all those who come under his wing. Norman is a great ambassador for the domestic landscaping arena through his own company and through the Association of Professional Landscapers which he helped to set up.”
There was success too for other APL members with Sussex based Arun Landscapes winning the Best Residential Garden category for their Surrey Manor Garden. The Garden Builders were highly commended for their St John’s Wood garden in the same category.
