About Us

The Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) is a specialist group of the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA), made up of landscaper and garden designer members of the HTA who meet rigorous standards of quality and professionalism. In 2025, the association is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The APL is the only landscaping scheme operator of TrustMark, a government initiative that promotes professional trade to consumers. Members of the APL are regularly inspected and agree to follow a customer charter with clients.

The HTA is the leading trade association representing and supporting businesses in the UK garden industry. With a membership comprising retailers, growers, manufacturers, landscapers, and garden designers, the HTA actively advocates for the sector, fostering growth, sustainability, and innovation.

What our members are saying

Employing a landscaper to carry out landscaping work at your property can often be a bit hit and miss with homeowners facing a lottery of companies who promise to carry out the work. Consumers can feel confident that by employing an APL landscaper the quality of work will remain high at all times and that a professional standard will be met

Paul Baker - Holland Landscapes

If you are looking to choose a landscaper to implement your garden project the APL is the ideal place to start. They(we) have a network of approved members all over the country that have passed a rigorous inspection, offering high standards of service and a good level of professionalism, taking the uncertainty out of trusting a landscaper to deliver your project to a high standard.

Holly Youde - Urban Landscapes

The Association of Professional Landscapers takes the notoriously stressful decision of how to choose a landscaper to work in your garden away by providing a list of the country’s top landscaping companies who have been vetted not only for the quality of their work, but in their business practices too. You can therefore feel reassured that APL Landscapers will not only build you an amazing garden, but will do so in a safe, ethical and legal manner. Once you’ve instructed an APL member to landscape your garden, you can just sit back and enjoy watching them work to create your incredible new outside space.
