Biodiverse front garden

A compacted gravel driveway was installed to create a permeable, durable surface that supports sustainable drainage and minimises surface runoff. Blue limestone setts were used to define key edges and transitions, adding texture and a refined architectural detail to the layout. Granite paving completed the scheme, providing a robust and contemporary hard-landscaping element that complements the natural tones of the planting and stonework.

The result is a cohesive front garden that is both functional and environmentally responsible, offering a welcoming entrance with reduced maintenance requirements and long-term durability.

This project was a comprehensive front garden redevelopment designed to deliver a durable, low-maintenance space with strong visual structure and long-term performance. The scheme incorporated drought-resistant planting to reduce water use while maintaining year-round interest and resilience to changing weather conditions.

A compacted gravel driveway was installed as a permeable and robust surface, edged with blue limestone setts to clearly define access routes and planting areas. Granite paving was introduced to add a high-quality, hard-wearing finish that complements the overall design.

To manage changes in level, a mild-steel retaining edge was installed, integrating a discreet, practical bin store into the structure. Existing metal gates were carefully reinstalled to preserve character and minimise waste. A new featheredge fence was constructed and engineered to retain soil, ensuring safety and longevity.

The project combined thoughtful design with solid craftsmanship and sustainable decision-making. The finished garden is functional, visually cohesive, and built to last, and the client was extremely pleased with the end result.
